Faculty of Nursing, department of Nursing
Nursing seeks to assist people in the maintenance and improvement of health, prevention of disease and smooth recovery from illness. Nursing has established itself as an important branch of the human sciences.
Those who have studied nursing science make major contributions to society as nurses, public health nurses and midwives. Each classification of nurse requires the successful completion of the national examination. Nurses also play an important role in the fields of school education and nursing education. St. Luke's College of Nursing has a unique curriculum which stresses a combination of basic knowledge and techniques, and also endeavors to instill a sense of moral responsibility to society.
Study of the nursing
In Japan, the nursing curriculum in baccalaureate programs is under the
control of two institutions: the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports,
Science and Technology and the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare. This
has made the reorganization of curriculum very difficult. Recently, however,
the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology has
recognized the necessity for flexibility for baccalaureate education in
nursing and has begun to encourage academic institutions to improve their
programs in this direction. At St. Luke's College of Nursing, we continue
to improve the curriculum.
The curriculum is designed to meet the educational objectives which evolve from the philosophy of St. Luke's College of Nursing to prepare well-educated, professional nurses. The curriculum, initiated in April 1995, is composed of three parts: liberal arts, foundations of nursing practice and clinical nursing.
